Often Boards or Owners of schools are clear that the school needs to keep moving forward but often less sure about the best direction or the order of priorities.  Someone with experience who is not steeped in the present success of the school is often better placed to highlight the most obvious areas for improvement and to act as facilitator towards effective discussion about the best way forward.  Evolving a clear plan as a result is crucial as is the process of sharing that plan with all the stakeholders, giving them an opportunity to shape and refine it and, in the process, claim a degree of ownership.
